This was a lot of fun, and I'll be looking forward to the next one while catching up on Osman's other prior works. I especially enjoyed the bit on the Irish talk show. A couple of red herrings that I actually thought weakened the book, but overall, it was entertaining and the relationships between Amy and Steve and Amy and Adam were great. All we now need is a relationship between Steve and Adam, which I suspect will develop over time. Hope to see Rosie come back in the future as well. She was a really great pal!

I love this author, especially when I can listen to his writing with an excellent narrator.  This story jumps in with murders, money laundry, assassins-for-hire, and wonderful characters.

Steve Wheeler is a retired cop who lost his wife and has since shrunk his world to investigating village problems, looking after his cat (Trouble) and doing the weekly pub quiz. His daughter-in-law, Amy, is in private security for the rich and famous and is always off around the world but checks in on Steve with a phone call each day.
But when other celebrities in the same vicinity as Amy keep turning up dead, it looks like someone is out to frame her.

Amy has been sent to guard famous novelist and all round flirt, Rosie, but when it’s obvious that both of them now have a problem, they decide to join forces and investigate, roping Steve in along the way.

It’s impossible to read this book without comparing it to one of Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club ones and although I really miss the voice of Joyce or a similar character here, there’s plenty to love about Rosie (a loveable and dry witted clone of Jackie Collins), Steve (who has oodles of charm and people skills that he has no idea that he possesses), and Amy (who kicks ass and really cares for both her husband and Steve). Its  an easy read, sure, but it has enough mystery to keep you guessing and I’m looking forward to the follow up stories now the characters are nicely established.

What fun!  I hope Mr Osman manages to keep both series going, but as long as he writes his brand of humour and human collection, I will be reading - and sharing.  Please keep Rosie in the mix, and there just aren't enough crazy Dutchmen like Henk in current fiction.  Highly recommended - and i'm about to gift a copy to my own crazy Dutch dad.  He's going to love it.

Great fun! A globetrotting mystery adventure with a quirky cast that includes a frighteningly competent body guard, her curmudgeonly ex-copper father-in-law, her high-rolling author client, plus bosses and bad guys, celebrities and wannabes, a cat called Trouble and a pub quiz team. You might have some of the mystery solved by the end, but Osman's writing is so compelling you'll read at a gallop and be happy for the ride.
