The book started off slow but midway through the plot began to pick up and I had a hard time putting the book down! The story was told in reverse so know that I know how it began I feel like I need to reread the first quarter of the novel.

I loved the sentence-level writing, the mood/setting, the insights into the characters. The beginning felt a bit slow, and I had a bit of a hard time fitting together the different storylines into an arc that made narrative sense. But overall I enjoyed reading this.

This was by far my least favorite of Sarah Water’s books and I normally really enjoy her so I’m super disappointed.
It was an interesting concept to write the book backwards (newer events happening at the beginning, old events at the end). I just don’t think this was executed very well. I don’t feel like any of the characters got resolved at all.
I do like her writing and characterizations but the strange plot of this book left me scratching my head.
