The concept of this is very cool but the execution in my opinion was just fine. The characters were not particularly memorable and I think there was too much going on at once plot wise to make it a plot worth remembering or feeling particularly attached to.

gorgeously written with a lovely sapphic romance and gracefully-handled themes of feminism and anti-racism, but i just couldn’t attach myself to the characters and thus found myself eager to reach the end of each chapter so i could take a break from the book. i’m not exactly sure why, since it has all the makings of a book i would love (fantasy, magic, witches, familiars, sisterhood, lesbians), but whatever made me feel like that definitely contributed to how much i enjoyed my reading experience.

Little slow to start but loved loved loved once it got moving. Characters were so well written and the prose is chefs kiss.
