I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. It is fantasy, yes, but it has so much heart and feels so realistic (aside from all the witchcraft). Women are amazing

I fell in love with Alix’s writing in The Ten Thousand Doors of January and I was not disappointed with this. Alix does such a good job of really immersing you in the story. I absolutely fell in love with each of the three sisters and loved watching as each of their stories unfolded. This is a slow paced book but this works really well of the type of story that is being told here. This is such an empowering read and I gave it 4.5 stars.

The story of female empowerment during the last gasps of the 19th century, where women were fighting for the right to vote, but also for the right to practice witchcraft like their foremothers did. In New Salem, three sisters come together after years apart, and work together to restore the knowledge.
I really liked this book, and the sisters have compelling stories and personalities. I certainly like the message. I thought that the narrative got a bit drawn out at times, and could have been shorter without sacrificing anything. Still, a great story.
