“If I let myself love you, I won't throw myself in front of her. I'll throw myself in front of you.”

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I saw the movie in 2015 and was really disappointed, and lost all interest in the book series. Turns out (unsurprisingly), that the movie was just a poor adaptation. This was a fun, fast paced, vampire novel. I look forward to the reading sequels!

4.5 stars. Not sure how I've never read this before but I loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the mythos in this book. The good living vamps, evil undead vamps, and half vamp guardians… fascinating concept! As well as the use of magic and compulsion and telepathy.
Excited to see where this goes!

Note: this review is based only on the 10th Anniversary bonuses stories at the end of the book
It was okay. I was hoping for more. The stories were good, some better than others. I would have like maybe more of Tasha while she was in school, more Christian/Lissa, more Dimitri/Rose.

I already loved the movie but yes, the book is even better. I am already dreading the void I'm going to feel when I finish this series :,)

Overall, I'd give this a 4.5, but I've bumped it up to 5 for Goodreads. I love this modern take on vampires. The lore and world building is well done, and the magic system is interesting. Love the theme of mystery that runs throughout as Rose tries to figure out what's going on with Lissa. Best modern vampire book I've read for ages. However I deduct half a point because some of the teeny high school stuff was a bit irritating at times. But I shall definitely read book two at some point.
