This book while not amazingly written was very fun to read… easy to get through once i actually committed to it. My favourite characters so far are Lissa and Christian….. and dimitri 🤨 but he’s on thin fucking ice

i really want to like rose but i find her characterisation kinda flopped and tended to be whatever was best for the story at whatever time, like sometimes she just fought whoever, and sometimes she restrained herself bc of the rules but then would just randomly not care about that again… just stuff like that lol ALSO everytime she’s describing dimitri and she refers to him as “some kind of badass god” IMMEDIATELY NO 😭 babes get a grip that is so embarrassing, fr pulls me out of it u gotta edit in my mind so i cn keep reading it…

and speaking of editing…. the age gap… i gotta mention it just once…. teacher student relationships are not good actually.,,, the grip this prison sentence romance plot had on the early 2000s…………. sick and twisted…. but whats ever more sick and twisted is once u accept that it’s happening and if ur gna read these books u gotta get over it 😏😏😏😏😏 dimitri kinda fine ngl

my biggest issue with the writing was i found that rose continually just kinda summed up everything that had happened..,, instead of like us the reader SEEING it… there are lots of instances of this happening  but one of them was Lissa and Christian getting together,,, rose jus kinda mentions it happens and that they’re now obsessed with each other and it’s like????? okay???? damn wish i could hav seen that play out but if u say so 🤒🤒🤒 and like…. so many times there would b an action scene, rose would get knocked out, and then someone would explain everything that went on in the background to her LIKE WOW WHAT IF THE BACKGROUND SCENES ACTUALLY PLAYED OUT IN THE BOOK INSTEAD OF US JUS READING THE RECAP 😭

I truely think this book would have been better  if it was in 3rd person and we got a proper lissa POV along with rose POV, that way would could see the christian lissa romance play out properly alongside the dimitri rosa AND actions scenes would b more fun bc it wouldn’t jus b rose hanging out somewhere describing lissas brain… but idk maybe i’ll change my mind reading more of the series

i also found the descriptions of lissa self harming to be rlly jarring, i don’t think it’s an inherently bad plot point but paired with the simple writing and the lack of lissa POV it jus kinda felt like it was thrown in there to b edgy..,, and like not actually dealt with properly ..,, like the solution is that they jus giv her some pills and she’s fine 🤒🤒 idk it’s not a huge gripe bc it’s a YA book but i also feel a bit iffy when books include particularly heavy subjects but don’t go into the effort of rlly delving into it

anyway tho my favourite bit of the book was definitely the scavenger hunt extra story 😭😭😭😭😭 i was smiling the whole time it was jus so goofy and cute i loved it wtf 😭😭😭😭
(i can’t remember exactly how it went but honourable mention to the scene where rose is like what’s ur mum?? some kinda BLOOD WHORE 🤨 and dimitris jus like ….. yeah 🧍🏻‍♂️          like that was so funny for no reason)
(and mason the boy genius)
(and emo king christian 🥀🔪)

im excited to read the rest of the series 😈 calling lissa turning into strigoi RN
