An informative and well written account of the advances in facial plastic surgery during the war. My only complaint is that the book moved on from patient to patient rather quickly and as a result it felt a little repetitive, going case by case through each one. The doctors and artists themselves are real characters though, I just found myself wondering if this could have been tighter or perhaps was more documentary worthy than book as it’s not overly long but felt repetitive towards the last quarter. The audio narrator was brilliant though.

This was ok, I really loved her other book The Butchering Art, but this one felt too broad in scope and way the narrative around the war was laid out felt off and didn't keep my interest very well. I also personally don't enjoy reading about war and there was a decent amount of WW1 background here; some was obviously necessary but I'd have preferred it shortened.

It's incredible the ground breaking developments that are made in times of war. But war never changes.
