The Facemaker: A Visionary Surgeon's Battle to Mend the Disfigured Soldiers of World War I
Lindsey Fitzharris
This book is exceptional all around. The history is well told and the narrator is pleasant to listen to as well. Fitzharris's research was thorough and we are given a tale that encompasses many points of view to give us a well rounded picture of the origins of plastic surgery, of both the pioneers who made breakthroughs in the infancy of this profession and those of people who were treated by them.

A delightful read, but I feel it falls victim to patient backstories a tad bit too much and can put the true story on the back burner. Even though I enjoyed these patient stories as well, due to the odd back and forth nature between the story of Gilllies and a focus on a new patient/figure every chapter, it does feel a bit like this ends a tad abruptly.
