Uff, that was confusing and weird. I liked the writing and the generel idea but it felt too messy to me. I didn't quite understand everything and then it already ended.

Talk about intriguing, this one. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I started, but I was pleasantly surprised. Yukimi Ogawa has created a very rich and dynamic work here that comes to life in a short amount of space. There are some unexpected twists that keep the reader engaged and allow one to get a better understanding of the characters based on their actions and intent. This one has secured itself a place on my Hugo nominations ballot.

A little creepy and not sure which tale this is retelling, but good nonetheless.

This worked in the way that only a short story can, with much of reality left as a mystery, but beautiful, complicated characters sketched quickly and boldly, and then turned around on themselves.

I'm really not sure what I think of this story. On one hand it was beautiful and lyrical, on the other it was more than a little confusing. I tried reading the original fairy tale to see if it would clarify the story, but the tales are so different from each other I was left with just as many questions. This was wonderfully written, but lacked a cohesive story to really pull me in.

I enjoyed it. I didn't think that I would initially because I thought it was some contrived retelling of Cinderella but oh, how wrong I was! I loved the prose and the seamless incorporation of dark, visceral aspects. I can appreciate how the story relates to Eastern fairytales and that was one of the things that ultimately kept me reading. The fact that it wasn't like any of the fairy tales I've read before. I hope to read more by this author and other Asian inspirations.

I would give this 3.5 stars.

I really really enjoyed this short story which is available on The Book Smugglers website (http://thebooksmugglers.com/2014/10/in-her-head-in-her-eyes-by-yukimi-ogawa.html). So much so that I bought a Kindle edition of the book.

I'm a sucker for stories based on myths and this story feels like it's a myth or an old-school fairy tale (the one where happy endings are not guaranteed). I was actually surprised that it isn't a retelling of a specific myth because it feels so much like one.

This is a slow burn read. It doesn't feel like a whole lot is happening until the end when a whole lot happens. It's a perfect Halloween read because the horror creeps in slowly and, like the proverbial frog in a boiling pot, you don't realize how scary things are until it's far too late.

I suppose this isn't for everyone, but I think if you enjoy Grimm's fairytales or Japanese myths you'll enjoy this.

A bit of a disappointment. I was positively surprised when this fairy tale has turned into more of a sci-fi by the end but it wasn’t enough to make up for the average character building and confusing language/sentence structure.

This was one thing at first, becoming another in the middle and ending as something else. Strange and not quite solid, like the fairy tale motif that inspired it I had trouble picturing it exactly.
