You can see why Le Carre took off as a spy fiction author - this book is gripping and tense - twisting and turning on every page.

The majority of the book is spent retelling events that have already happened, and not in a way that particularly compelled me.

I'm very disappointed with this book, coming into it with a high regard for le Carre based on reputation. But the dialog involving the main character, Leamus, is quite annoying and almost caused me to put the book aside.
