Considering Nimble Jack was defeated in previous story arc, I wondered if there can be something happening to Declan to keep mu attention. Well, there is.
Once again, portal to Hungry World is opened and it spit into our world another nightmare made flesh. his name is Swivel and he likes fingers... So much he chops them off random passerbyes.
When it comes to plot, this one is weaker than vol. 1 since there is not that much of a story: he comes, he harvest the fingers and he transfers Reece into Hungry World where Declan follows her. Other than that, we have bunch of scenes with Swivel doing his cleaver dance on people's fingers and Reece trying to stay sane after numerous encounters with terrible creatures of Hungry World. They do get to find out what's Swivel's fixation on Declan about, but it's kind of lazy plot twist- Nimble Jack had a simple motive- hunger, but it was effective. ;)
Now the good... Well, Swivel is horrifying creation who seems to bloom and in hands of Juan Ferreyra. Body horror drawn so perfectly it's clever, and composed so well into Hungry World. Ferreyra is definitely the star of this entire project.

Terrifying! I'm not sure where Tobin came up with the concept for Swivel but he was perfectly done and simply mesmerizing on the page. I can't remember the last time a second volume of a graphic novel series out-shined the first this much.

Given how the first volume ended, I was very curious to see how another volume would come about. The villain in this one is definitely more creepy and disturbing visually, but I found him a lot more mild compared to the first villain in just about every other respect. Maybe it's just the writer in me who wants to know how this came to be, but knowing this 'other world' exists and that these villains come from that world but not knowing how they got to be there is kind of distracting me. Both this and the first volume were very focused on dealing with the villain and situations at hand; neither protagonist knows the full story of this other world and therefore neither does the reader. I don't mind being taken along on this ride, to an extent, but while we are learning more about Declan as we progress, we aren't really learning too much about the world where these horrors come from and that's actually what I'm more interested in.

Creepier than the first one, that's for sure.

I mean, I feel like someone should have had something to do with a bunch of ppl getting their fingers cut off left and right in Boston u feel me?

However, a good continuation of the first book! Didn't like swivel as much as jack, but I felt for him in his last few panels when the dedication to his crop was really clear. I loved the dog hand critters still. Good dogs

Really appreciated seeing some more of Declan's past, tho some of the stuff he actually did or how he came to to his asylums with Reece was unclear and I'd have liked more detail? O well still good

It's more nightmarishy than the first one, and it makes less sense than the previous one, but even without a real plot, it's so creepy, i was actually afraid sometimes. It's like it grows right from your nightmares. I keep loving this series, even though i feel kind of colder myself now :)

What is it about fingers that makes them So Creepy when there are so many of them all at once and they lack proper bodies? Yeesh.
