This is mainly a compilation of lengthy quotes from Merton scholars along various topical aspects of Merton's life. Higgins weaves these quotes together with commentary his own. There are no citations to accompany the quotes, which is a bit frustrating. There are several books out there that introduce Merton that are better thought through and with greater depth. I can't help but get the feeling the Orbis rushed this one through to get it out in 2015, the centennial year of Merton's birth.
