When I first started reading this book, it was in tedium, but as i got through the first 30 pages, this book started to gain momentum. I personally, did not find any of the characters very likeable, especially Tom, who irked me the most. Marion, I understand her position and her actions, but still, the malice was off putting and covered with envy and desperation. Patrick, was very much a middle-ground for me, his actions for the period made sense, but I really do not like cheating, which was a key component of this novel, despite this the novel was written exquisitely and was absolutely gripping, it was annoying to read about the discriminatory behaviour of the characters, but in the end, this book is fantastic and heart-breaking.
