I enjoyed learning how Bruce became the musician he is today. He went through a lot of hard times growing up and in his adult life. Bruce was able to overcome his struggles and found success. I am a Bruce fan and am glad that I was able to learn more about him. The book was a bit all over the place and lengthy. There was a lot of detail and characters which made it difficult to remember the characters, events, and places. For those reason I rated the book four stars

It started off interesting enough but honestly it was just to long. He has lived a storied life and many of the tales were thoughtful and insightful. I had a difficult time staying in tune to the book about two-thirds of the way in. But I am happy I listened and kept going.

It hit me as I was listening to this that while I know a whole lot of Bruce Springsteen music, I know almost nothing about the man (besides the fact that he is from New Jersey, duh.). I enjoyed listening to the audio book which was narrated by Bruce himself. I was struck by how he could be humble, and funny, and occasionally self-deprecating, in all aspects of his life except his music. He is exudes confidence in himself when he is talking about his talent and his craft. I think he's earned it.

4.5⭐️ Excellent audio experience. I’ve loved Springsteen’s music since his greatest hits album got left in my car by a friend in 1997 and I refused to give back the cassette tape. The book was lyrical and extremely honest. Bruce is a true artist dedicated to his craft who uses his voice to make change in the world by singing about people who often don’t have a voice but slog through their daily lives working for the man. I appreciated his brutal honesty about the difficult relationships he had with his parents and his battles with depression. Highly recommend.
