“You are more than I could have ever dreamed of.”

the brood was SO good! there’s a reason why devney perry is an auto-buy author for me, i swear she can do no wrong. the tension, the banter, the SPICE - it was goddamned perfection.

one thing i have to say though - i’m not usually a fan of the widow/widower trope because the element of guilt and feeling like they’re competing with a ghost just doesn’t appeal to me at all. however, this was just so well written i didn’t mind it at all.

devney perry, thank you for your service.

delicious

Ohhhhh we’re these two the epitome of grumpy sunshine! They were basically a rainbow and storm cloud personified.

Iris is young, bubbly, covered in beautiful tattoos, always wearing bright colours, and is an influencer to boot. She flits from one town/city/country to the next every two months - which has kind of become her thing - has no roots of which to speak, and can make friends anywhere.

Wilder couldn’t be more Iris’ opposite if he tried. Grumpy, broody, quiet, basically a recluse outside of being a high school teacher.

Oh but he is attracted to the ball of sunshine that is Iris Monroe. And it just makes him grumpier.

I love that they were both so focused on how they shouldn’t be attracted to the other, that neither of them realised it was a mutual lust. It took hearing each other call out the other’s name during…private moments shall we say…to discover that all the sexual tension in the house wasn’t one-sided. And the snap of restraint! Ugh. So good. I swear they were actual bunny rabbits going at it at least three times every single day.

Their chemistry was fire, they were both such great characters individually, and together just made all kinds of sense.

And my favourite thing about Devney Perry books is that there generally isn’t a big, dramatic, drawn out, angsty breakup. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some angst, but I equally adore when love just prevails and no third act breakup is needed.

Side note (and I don’t think this is spoilery): I understand Wilder’s misplaced guilt over his wife’s death, but I don’t really understand his guilt over potentially moving on. Especially after 9 years.

I loved this book! It was kind grumpy sunshine, was age gap, brothers best friend, and obviously small town. It dealt with heavy topics so look up trigger warnings but I loved that Iris was an influencer but very humble. And wilder was so brooding but also so cute. Loved it!

These characters were so loveable. They were perfect for each other and watching their relationship unfold was a ride and a half.
