Meh. 2.5 Stars

This wasn't a bad book. It was cute, and Greyson is a sweetheart. It's a good book to pick up when you're in the mood for a quick read that you know will have some moments to make you smile. But there were also parts of it that I thought moved too fast, and other parts that just aggravated me. So yeah. And for more information about what I really didn't like about this book, please see the spoiler below. But know that this wasn't a bad book. Just... meh.

SpoilerI hated Lucas. That's largely why this is 2.5 instead of a solid 3. I mean... what a waste of space. I'm sorry, I know that's probably mean. But his behavior seemed rather toxic in my opinion. I think the story wasn't meant to make you see him that way, but I couldn't help it. Cammy has almost no guy friends because having any would've probably made Lucas lose his mind. She never went to group studies for that same reason. But when he starts talking to a girl and Cammy says that this one makes her uncomfortable, does he care? No. Tells her she's being unreasonable or ridiculous and does not try to lessen his time with that other girl at all. And when Cammy does start hanging out with a guy who is, literally, promising to just be friends unless she states she wants more... Lucas gets all mad and angry and jealous and... I mean, what the hell?!

Anyway, he kind of ruined this book for me because, in spite of all of that, Cammy spends almost eighty percent of the book coming back to the idea that she should maybe give this douchebag a second chance. Um... no. Hard no. Also, why are you still with a person who behaves this way in the first place?

I just fancied a short read and have read other books by this author, though not in this contemporary genre. I love the image on the cover and remember a character in another book saying she would know when she was when love as when she kissed her true love her leg would kick up. That is what I immediately thought of when I saw the cover!!

The main female character in the book is Cammy, who has been dating her boyfriend Lucas for quite a while. There is a difficult discussion looming about what they will be doing next as their “next steps” in their careers with have them living in totally different area’s and having to cope with a long-distance relationship. However, before that happens Cammy walks in at a party a little later than expected and spots her boyfriend Lucas, kissing another a girl!

Cammy isn’t sure what to do. On one hand her relationship with Lucas is something she feels she wants to hold onto. Then she is unexpectedly asked to join a study group by the rather hot guy called Grayson Parker. According to Cammy’s roommate all the girls have been after Grayson. It becomes apparent that Grayson cares for Cammy as more than “just a friend” but he is very gentlemanly and doesn’t put any pressure on Cammy to make a decision.
When Cammy becomes ill both suitors reveal their individual “caring” sides which end up making her decision much easier about who she feels she wants to be with.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing the novella were I just fancied a short read and have read other books by this author, though not in this contemporary genre. To sum up I really enjoyed this novella, it was short, sweet and had a happy ending. Once I started reading, I didn’t stop until the end! I had to know what decision Cammy would make. At times I felt like shouting at Cammy about who to choose. I would definitely read more from Mary Ting in this contemporary genre. The novella did also make me think about why there are so many Lucas characters in the world and not enough Grayson’s.
