Huh, I thought the beginning of this was confusing and I couldn't remember the end of #2. Nor could I find it (and now I see I didn't review it so apparently I only THOUGHT I read it). I'm sure if I hadn't somehow skipped a volume I would have made much more sense of the beginning of this.
It obviously takes up where #2 ended, drawing from folklore for both the Wandering Jew (as an alchemist in this) and faeries. During the battle, Chise, ends up bonded to a faerie (dog shifter) she names Ruth (in spite of the fact he's a boy) and Elias uses to much magic that he's having trouble holding his form.
And why oh why did the Chimera have to be a centaur like creature that has the body of a monstrous spider and the torso of a woman and where her pelvis joins the spider there's a vagina-mouth filled with drool and teeth (how many times have I seen this in anime/manga. Makes you wonder...)
In the aftermath, life starts settling down to normal but Elias has locked himself away because of his issues keeping his form (he's not human, others see him as monstrous. Chise doesn't but she doesn't know what he is either). Chise gets a lot of alone time, cautioned not to live her life just for him (she was abused and unwanted by her own mother so she's not sure she knows how to live 'normally') and has a few other adventures involving mages and faeries which is about all I can say without spoiling it.
This is a different sort of manga and I'm really enjoying it.

im torn bc i love the world building and art and characters (especially ruth the grim dog) but this weird dynamic between the two main characters is something i’m still mulling over; i’m not sure to what extent i can enjoy this series bc of it. there’s brief moments where the relationship feels parental, and others where it feels romantic, and those blurred lines are hard to look past. anyways, i ordered the next two volumes at the library lol, it’s such a quick read that i might as well chug along with it for now 🤷♀️
I love the art and I'm intrigued by the little glimpses we get of bigger things.
I really loved this volume of this manga this series is always interesting to me and just love how the world in this manga works. I still really love the characters especially Chise and I now really like Ruth he is such an interesting character. Since Chise was abandoned and lived without love or care for so long she takes any she can and does not think of how it would seem to other people she has a lot to learn. I really liked the plot it picked up from where it left off so there were more things learnt and some mysteries starting to be unraveled. So overall I loved this volume of this series will read more soon.
Chise gains a familiar. She wants to know more about Elias, but he is reluctant to share.
