Amazing! Even more disturbing than the movie, which I didn't really think was possible. Easter Eggs: the phrases, "pungent stench" and "vulgar display of power", and a nod to C.S. Lewis' Uncle Screwtape (cemented by a reference to Surprised by Joy on the next page).
The movie is undeniably a horror classic, but the book holds its own.
pick up the audiobook read by the author for a truly disturbing experience. I had to turn off the audiobook several times and switch to something more upbeat because the author read the writing so well.
Even if you’re not an audiobook fan, the book itself is also a good read. I did a combination of both.
