Audiobook. Definitely a beautiful, needed young adult book. For any of my kiddos interested in realistic fiction, space, or not-so-perfect families - this is a gem!

At first, I struggled to really dive into this book. The characterization eventually pulled me more into the story. There were some really great moments, but my overall impression was that something was missing from the story. I also felt a bit like this novel relied on some nostalgia that didn't register with me (and I'm not sure would resonate with the even younger readers this book is intended for).

We finished this second audiobook on our Colossus of Roads Trip today. My grandson had trouble with the ending as far as the parents are concerned which I understand, but otherwise had a very positive reaction. The major event of this book happened two years before his mother/my daughter was born, so the book had quite an effect on all of us in the car. I think the author’s stroke of genius was to have the reader/listener outside of the room where the launch was being shown on TV.

Read this to fulfill a reading goal of getting to a book from every state (this is Delaware!). Simple little story...seemingly...but lots of layers and a real jerk back to middle school and all of those awkward feelings. And then of course the sadness of The Challenger incident. Lots of memories here.
