i feel it’s hard to go wrong with an agatha christie but this wasn’t my favorite! firstly there was some wild racial stuff just peppered in that didn’t even relate to the plot or characters at ALL. secondly (which is a fault of my own) i have never played bridge nor do i know how it’s played so the first chunk of the book and any talk of bridge thereafter went right over my head. thirdly i just didn’t find it QUITE as engaging as some of the others i’ve read. i was quite surprised that they just sort of shuffled over anne’s death once the murderer was revealed. however despite these gripes it was a good poolside read and of course i shall be continuing on my christie crusade.

A bit of a departure: in this book, you know from the beginning that the murderer is one of four people, and the problem is to figure out which. The give-away hinges on knowing how bridge is played, and since I know absolutely nothing whatsoever about bridge, beyond the fact that it involves cards, I could not possibly work out the problem myself.
