I can see why this duology was split and not just published as a single novel, as the pacing here dragged just a bit in the middle.

BUT THE END! The end tore me to shreds and left no pieces untorn. Why did we have to do that to my lovable side character! And the romance here is soft and sweet and tinged with just enough heartache to hurt me even more.

I love these characters, i love this story, I love this world.

Ended like it began. With masterful characters and slightly less masterful, but still perfectly passable world-building. If you liked the first volume the second delivers nothing more and nothing less than you go in looking for.

I love the romantic fantasy books in the world of the White Rat.  This book was no exception. This was a dark, fun conclusion to the Clocktaur War duology.  Those adjectives don’t normally go together, but T. Kingfisher manages it.  Pick it up if you can
