Well, I wasn't expecting to cry over a T. Kingfisher book (and for multiple chapters)! 😭 That plot twist was kind of diabolical.

I think this would've worked better as one book vs. a duology. Possibly it originally was? Some things could've been trimmed down and others explained a little better.

I wasn't really invested in the romance. I didn't even realize there was one when I picked up book one. It wasn't bad, I just wasn't compelled by it.

The ending was a bit unsatisfying? I didn't care for it, but I understand why it was done that way. Either way, I had a mostly good time and feel prepared to read Swordheart now.

Me: What is a wonder engine
Also me: OHHHH THATS WHAT A WONDER ENGINE IS
Forever cursed at feeling silly and not understanding stuff straight away.

This was a lovely end to the Clocktaur War duology but I wish it hadn't had to end/could have been longer as I was not ready to leave all these characters behind! The Gnoles absolutely made this book and I hope I get to meet them again later in the White Rat world.

The romance in this was also ticking ALL my boxes (and I didnt actually expect as much romance as there was)

I would recommend this duology 100 times over as a fun read with some interesting stakes and a suprising 'bad guy'

Fun book. You could almost read this book without reading book 1, but I believe that both of them combined should be one book. But this is a good ride that closed out the Clockwork thread nicely.
