Penelope Ward makes falling in love with characters so easy. From the very first page- i fell for Chelsea- and not long after, I had it bad for Damien, even though he was the asshole. She also has the ability to take a character i was very much in love with, and shed some new light on him- and kinda made me hate him a little. Just words- letters strung into words, make me FEEL so much- and Penelope has really got a gift.
Chelsea, if you remember- was Elec's girlfriend in Stepbrother Dearest. And of course i didn't like her in that book- because Elec and Greta were meant to be. But here comes Neighbor Dearest and I loved her. What she went through with Elec seriously devastated her and messed her up for relationships moving forward- and with some extra details, i can see why she was so hurt by Elec. She moves into a building, and her Neighbor has dogs barking all hours of the morning, when she goes to tell the building manager- it ends up her neighbor with the dogs- owns the building and shares a wall, a thin one, with Chelsea.
Damien is a dick. Well, that's just the first impression, but beneath the dickery (i made it up, just go with it) there is a much softer side, and we find out why he is, the way he is. His home life was not the best, and he is having to live his life not knowing where he is going. that is all i will say, you will just have to pick this story up and read it for yourself.
And as with every Penelope book, i can't say i loved Damien more than i loved Elec, or Mitch, or whatever hero i am fancying that day (*note- Jake Green is the exception, i love him the most, and he loves me- let that be known) I loved Damien, differently, for different reasons than i love the others.
And that just about describes every Penelope book. When you read it, you love it- guaranteed, i put my seal of approval on every book she writes. And even though i love everything she has ever written, i love them in different but equal ways. this is a great story that deserves to be read by fan girls and book nerds alike, you will fall in love with the characters and the worlds that Penelope writes.

I've heard good things about Penelope Ward and this seemed like it could be a fun audiobook for me, but I was so disappointed. The dialogue was stilted, uncomfortable, and cringey. The relationship is weird, the characters are walking sterotypes, and I didn't feel any kind of attachment to either of them. And don't get me started on the spice. Literally no foreplay? None? Like maybe I could brush it off for one scene, but literally it never happened, it was so awkward to listen to and I've never made as many ick faces while listening to a romance novel.

3.75 stars 🌟 Chelsea x Damien
I loved their friendship. The story got a little bit too long after they got together, but I had fun regardless. Glad they got their happily ever after!

In true Penelope fashion, this story didn't go as expected. I loved that it started off where Neighbor Dearest ended. Gave you sort of an extra Epilogue. There were so many amazing details in this story that made Damien interesting. I loved Chelsea as a heroine! She had some decisions to make for self preservation even though they were tough ones to make. As is the case in these books, sometimes the secondary characters are just as important and in this one it was the Double Ds. They were everything! Listened to this one on audio and the narrator was amazing!
So far I have hated every book I’ve read that tiktok recommended.
Another great read by Penelope Ward. I really liked the connection with one of her previous stories, again because I like the full story and this showed us what happened after Elec. I also enjoy the banter between the main characters and Ms. Ward is an expert in bring those relationship life.
I'll start by saying that I did not like the mention of Elec so much. He seemed like a bad guy here and obviously he's not! Duh. He's perfect.
Just like this story. It's really beautiful.
