A little drawn out and annoying. The characters were not the type of characters where you have a ton of feelings for them. To be honest the character of Julia bugged me and so did a lot of the other characters such as her mother.

Not really a book that I would ever read again.

"It's almost five o'clock. Where the hell are you?

Losing Julia has become a constant in Cindy Carver's life. The first time Julia disappeared, she was five years old and vanished at the playground. That inspired motherly paranoia. The second was when, at age fourteen, Julia decided to move in with her father. That broke Cindy's heart. But when twenty-one-year-old Julia disappears without a trace after a promising audition with one of Hollywood's most powerful and influential directors, Cindy begins a frantic search. Secrets are revealed, lives are forever altered, and Cindy is forced to acknowledge the disturbing truth about the young woman she realizes she never really knew." (From Amazon)

A scary concept - when a person goes missing. This novel has so many twists I had to read to the end. Thank gawd for long bus ride.

I really like Joy Fielding since reading her Still Life novel, but this one was a bit predictable and I wanted to strangle some of the characters...all I have to say though is "Finally mom did something right!"
Enjoy the book!

This was a good story, but not up to par with other books I've read by Fielding.

after argueing with everyone in her house, julia goes missing after an audition. while her mother is frantic with worry, her father could care less. the search for her turns up a few of julia's well-kept secrets. if julia ever comes back, will she be the same, or will she have changed for the better?

i knew the ending straight from the beginning. sure a couple of times, i found myself rethinking the ending, but for the most part i knew exactly what happened. i'm not just talking about what happened to julia, i'm talking about heather, faith, leigh, and everyone. while the book wasn't "a real page turner", it did have me not wanting to put it down.

An anticlimactic ending, an unlikeable main character, and frankly, kind of boring. Still, I didn't actively hate it. It passed the time okay.

there are no words for how bad I thought this book was. I wanted to like it and maybe it was because I listened to the audio book and the voice of the woman reading it was actually what ruined it for me but this was terrible.

*spoilers* what kind of father would help hide is daughter from her mother to get publicity for a movie role?!?

the only likable character in this book was Elvis the dog.

Pretty suspenseful story with a lot of unlikable people. People not getting enough attention from special loved ones was a recurrent theme showing up with different generations: daughters/ mothers/ fathers. The means is justified by the end. I'm sure there are more things that happen for publicity reasons that I'd ever suspect.
