If you liked Ghost Map or the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks you will enjoy this quick, compelling and startlingly relevant read.

Slightly sensationalist title detracts from a capably-written history of public health and racism in San Francisco.

I'm really bad at reading instead of listening to nonfiction, maybe I'll get the audiobook for this later

I never knew the history of the plague in the US and its impact on the city of San Francisco. The author pieces together this story of containment, detailing its failings and ultimately reveals that we are still facing the possibility of plague in our country today!

Compelling and informative, this loses a star only because of its brevity- I feel like it could have gone more in depth than it did (for example, in comparison to The Ghost Map). Overall, a fascinating read that I sped through in a weekend.
