Sad but heartwarming. Strong commentary on how trauma shapes relationships and how relationships shape our self-worth and wellbeing.

Nide idea, and beautifully written, maybe slightly to slow at the begging, but in general worth hours spent on it

This story was a wonderful mixture of funny, sad, and sweet (although it was never so sad that I actually cried). I really liked how we learned about Eleanor’s personality and appearance slowly and with little comments that made it seem like we should already know those things about her. I also felt like this was a powerful picture of the difference that acts of kindness and showing unconditional love to others can make in a person’s life. If done well, I think an overlapping story told from Raymond’s perspective would be an interesting read. I had a lot of questions about his thoughts and motivations throughout.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a deeply moving book. We follow Eleanor, a woman who finds comfort and security in her privacy and strict daily routine. At first, she comes across as rude and odd, but as the story unfolds, you begin to feel sympathy for her and understand her better. Bit by bit, you discover the painful childhood trauma that shaped her into the person she is today.

The novel explores themes of loneliness, trauma, and mental health (particularly depression). I loved watching Eleanor slowly open herself up to new friendships and personal growth. A poignant yet heartwarming read.
