I’m sorry but this was so boring to me… I tried so hard to pay attention but every character was similarly written and I could never tell what mattered and what didn’t. It had great potential to discuss the complexities of assisted suicide but it instead was treated as murder. Idk I can see how it might work for others but I was bored to tears.

Exit by Belinda Bauer
I give this book 5 stars
My favourite read so far of 2020!
IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE MURDER...
This was an engaging read and l simply didnt want to put it down.
Good plot and detailed characters especially Felix who l loved! A great mix of crime and humour with an ending l didn’t see coming.
I would highly recommend this book.
With thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for my chance to read this .

I read this for my 2023 book challenge for the category of A book recommended by a friend.

This was a quick and easy read that I did enjoy.

This book is a crime, mystery book that is both charming, funny and dark. The main topic of the book is euthanasia but the author covers the complexity of this in a touching and humourous way. Felix is an Exiteer, whose role is to accompany those who wish to take their own lives because of terminal illness or old age. Felix also does not want  to die alone himself so his reasons for doing this are empathetic and altruistic.

Felix, the main protagonist is a loveable character. I instantly warmed to his charm and morals. He's a gentleman that strives to do the right thing and a man everyone would love to be their grandad. However, he is one of societies invisible people, the old man that no one looks at, he leads a boring life but all this changes when the wrong person dies.

This book I enjoyed because of its originality and the writing style that made you laugh out loud or ponder deep in thought.

This was my first book by Belinda Bauer, and I really loved it.

I thought the idea of the Exiteers, the voluntary group of people that kicks off the book, was really great to read about, and I wouldn't have minded reading more about it. Unfortunately for the main character, Felix 'John' Pink, we really needed to get on with the plot where he accidentally murdered someone and was wanted by the police, so sorry, but I tried. ;)

And oh boy, when things started going wrong, they really did go wrong. I was not expecting that from this novel at all. I really felt bad throughout the book for Felix and Skipper, the person who was meant to die at the beginning.
SpoilerI'm really glad that they got to know each other towards the end, and that Skipper's send-off was just the way he wanted to go, on his own terms and no one else's.

I would love to read more books by this author someday, and I highly recommend Exit to anyone looking for a fast and good mystery novel to read.

Happy Reading!

Most of us read this as enjoyed Rubbernecker so much. Though Rubbernecker preferred.  This slower paced but enjoyably convoluted & slightly local. Penny described it as ‘ the one where they put people down ‘. We also shared Snap, all liked Tiverton description some liked better than Exit some not.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! Laugh-out-loud moments, darkness, poignancy, rip-roaring storyline, twists - this book has them all! Reminded me so of Tom Sharpe, the subtle observations and human traits wonderfully twisted into the narrative. I will now look to read more of this author.
