Felix Pink volunteers as an Exiteer, someone who sits by the side of the terminally ill as they die by suicide. A short time after he watches his most recent client take his last breath, Felix realizes the wrong man has died. Was it a mistake? Or deliberate? Either way, Felix’s quiet life just got put into a tailspin.

An intriguing premise whose main character was so endearing your heart will explode with compassion for him. Poor Felix. Alone in the world following the death of his son and then his wife. After watching both suffer in the end, Felix joined the Exiteers to assist others who decide to end their suffering rather than wait for the inevitable end. This could have dived into an intense “assisted suicide” debate. Instead, readers are taken into Felix’s heart and mind as he struggles to unravel answers while debating if he should turn himself in.

Equally enchanting was the I-don’t-want-to-be-an-investigator-I’m-happy-in-uniform police officer Calvin. His scenes and reminiscences left me wanting to know more about his complicated youth and reasons for his hesitations on moving up in police ranks.

Exit was guilty of a late night and early morning so that I could get to the last page. Darn those heavy eyes for not cooperating and letting me finish without a nighttime “nap”! This was my first Belinda Bauer book. I suspect it will not be my last.

I’m sorry but this was so boring to me… I tried so hard to pay attention but every character was similarly written and I could never tell what mattered and what didn’t. It had great potential to discuss the complexities of assisted suicide but it instead was treated as murder. Idk I can see how it might work for others but I was bored to tears.

Enjoyable, hilarious and tragic. What a book!
Felix is an Exiteer - a small group of people who help those in pain and suffering terminal illnesses die with little pain and dignity.
He has no issues until Mr Cann and his new partner, Amanda. They flee the house after Skipper Cann informs them the wrong man is dead. Felix and Amanda killed Albert Cann.
Felix returns to the scene of the crime to find their housekeeper watching tv. Hayley sobs she is pregnant and tired. So Felix helps her tidy up. Afterwards he repairs the fence he broke to escape.
Calvin Bridges helps the police investigation- tracking down witnesses, CCTV and interviewing the coordinator of Exiteer.
One lead turns into another as the characters bumble through life- theft of a tulip, a maniacal vending machine, nosey neighbors and horse betting.
Dark humor keeps this book lively through some serious depressing reality - dying alone, after your friends and loved ones. Bereft elderly struggling with the loss of meaning in their lives, loss of dignity and kindness.
The ending - ugly crying.
Highly recommend.

I read this for my 2023 book challenge for the category of A book recommended by a friend.

This was a quick and easy read that I did enjoy.

This book is a crime, mystery book that is both charming, funny and dark. The main topic of the book is euthanasia but the author covers the complexity of this in a touching and humourous way. Felix is an Exiteer, whose role is to accompany those who wish to take their own lives because of terminal illness or old age. Felix also does not want  to die alone himself so his reasons for doing this are empathetic and altruistic.

Felix, the main protagonist is a loveable character. I instantly warmed to his charm and morals. He's a gentleman that strives to do the right thing and a man everyone would love to be their grandad. However, he is one of societies invisible people, the old man that no one looks at, he leads a boring life but all this changes when the wrong person dies.

This book I enjoyed because of its originality and the writing style that made you laugh out loud or ponder deep in thought.
