I really enjoyed this book. It was a contrast between a biblical story of Salome and 1950s Hollywood movie sets. The latter writing style being similar to Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books.
The story follows Vera who is seen at work in Mexico and suddenly whisked into a big epic feature in New York - the answer to new talent to meet audience demand. However as per 1950’s Hollywood, Vera has to balance her new role with a racist, sexist environment filled with alcohol and jealousy. Whilst at the same time trying to please her mother’s expectations and falling in love.
Told from multiple characters pov, sometimes in a post event interview style.
Recommend for those who enjoy Jenkins Reid’s books, especially 7 husbands or Daisy Jones.

Silvia Moreno-García tackles an historical mystery set in 1950s Hollywood. Her writing really captured the visuals and atmosphere of this Hollywood era for me. I was easily transported to those movie sets, the diners, the parties that were described. Having multiple narrators was confusing at first but it ended up really working for me. Vera Larios is plucked from Mexico to come star as Salome in a film; Nancy has been trying to make it big in Hollywood for years- Salome was supposed to be her breakout role; and the story of Salome herself taking place in ancient times. These three women interwoven with the friends/acquaintances of Vera and Nancy tell this story. I wish that we would have gotten more after the climax. The ending felt rushed after the long build up towards the climax. Moreno-Garcia is one of my newly favorite authors in the last few years. She is talented and when she hits her mark, she hits it very well.
