A book about commitment
A book that explores what it means to commit to an unlikeable person, no matter what. It was darker than I thought...but it was compelling and thoughtful.

The main character is a bit too perfect (likeably perfect, though, I should add), and that absolute perfection in dealing with tricky situations and questions definitely pulled me out of the believability of the story multiple times, but it was still a very engaging story that I wanted to keep reading.

This is an inspiring story of unconditional love and the family you make. It was hard watching Nat make some of his choices, but the author developed the characters well so we could understand why he was doing it.
I started this book on audio and switched to reading 15% though. The audio book is painful. I think the narrator wanted to make sure each voice was distinct and memorable and in so doing they were all over the top caricatures. Nasal and grating.

I liked this much more than I thought I would. I thought it was reasonably well written and realistic in its portrayal of the relationship between Nat and Nathan. A solid quick read.
It was good enough but I found Nat as a character and Nathan's what I can only call unwavering enabling to be increasingly grating over the course of the book. I feel like Nat's character arc was never fully completed and that the intended resolution of this arc, his mentoring of Danny, was a weak conclusion. Also what happened to Eleanor?? She wasn't completely wrong about anything and there was no reason for us to believe her leaving could not be rectified in this fictional world.
This just didn’t do it for me. I couldn’t connect with any characters. Got bored with the storyline. It’s a DNF for me

The general story line was good but found it hard to connect to the characters.
It took me a long time to get in to the book and I initially thought I would rate this much lower. However, as I read the book, I found myself more drawn in to the story. I found myself throughout wanting to know more about Nathan and the driving force behind his devotion to Nat. I think a lot of us could learn a lot from Nathan.
Even though this book is incredibly sad at times, it is a testimony to the power of having the unconditional love of one person. It is also a testiment to the fact that often the people who lift us up and believe in us are not birth family. Nathan is a wonderful man, and the world would benefit from more like him.
