Drew is headed to Hawaii on vacation. Who with, you ask? With her ex, Six. What she didn’t know, was it’s a family vacation, so if her ex wasn't bad enough, add his family to it. And when she gets to the airport, Six isn’t there. He's being held out of the country, in jail. Starting out with a bang.

Josh, Six’s brother is there, and he and Drew don’t exactly get along. But not for the reasons you may think. He has kind of had a thing for her and needs to stay far, far away. To make matters worse, his fling is there, invited by his mom, and now they are all headed to Hawaii for a week.

Despite the bickering between Josh and Drew, Josh is always looking out for her. Swoon. He follows her on her runs, saves her in the ocean, etc. Always there to protect her. But this is just the beginning. Josh and Drew both have complicated lives and neither know how to navigate whatever it is they feel.

This is a really good story..from beginning to end. Josh is so supportive and I really liked him. Obviously, a lot of people love these books and maybe I'm the only one that thinks this..but..what is up with the women letting people run all over them? Don’t get me wrong, I really liked the book. But Drew will tell certain people off, meanwhile her team runs slam over her. It’s crazy! End rant.

4.5/5 - I have to say, I wasn’t crazy about the first 30% of this story - the grumpy/sunshine trope is tough for me because the banter, like enemies to lovers, can be silly. This was a LITTLE silly in the beginning until it very much wasn’t and I ended up loving Drew and Josh. Their story REALLY picks up and the rest of the book came full circle in the best - but not necessarily most predictable - way.

I also totally freaked out when characters from A Deal With The Devil AND The Summer We Fell (!!!!!) popped in - the overlap was fun and since I always crave more of characters I love, I was thrilled.

This is a hard core slow burn. And it’s also very personal - the issues and trauma Drew is working through are hard and sad, and O’Roark does a beautiful job addressing the heaviness and emptiness and loneliness of fame, family hardship and losing a parent. She gives both Drew and Josh adequate time to work through it all, so the story never once felt rushed.

I read this in a day so, I clearly couldn’t put it down. Also the bonus epilogue is

she shows up for vacation and falls for her not-boyfriend’s hotter older brother. a lot of drama, but surprisingly most of the relationship drama was self-inflicted.

I had a hard time connecting to the characters and the storyline. I didn’t become fully invested in reading/listening to the audiobook of The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea until approximately 75% into the story.

the wrong Bailey brother

We met Drew in A Deal with the Devil. We already know she has issues with her on again off agin boyfriend, Six. Here we meet the other Bailey, Josh, whom Drew could never figure out why he hates her so much. After Six convinces Drew to go on vacation with him and his family, she finds herself with Six missing because he’s detained in another country for possession of drugs. Drew finds herself with Josh in plenty of situations and their snarky banter has hints of flirtatiousness. The jabs between these two are fun to read and I enjoyed reading the slow burn. The burn soon turn almost scorching once they admit they actually like each other. Such a fun and easy read. I cant wait to read Ben’s story next!
