I love this author's writing, her stories are very cute. I liked Josh and Drew's dynamic and they were very sweet, however I wish we saw them as a couple after they got together, and the conflict was kinda meh. The pacing was good overall, better in the beginning. Loved Drew's personality, overall a cute fun read. Also the title is so random?? LOL

Holy moly! You want a book packed full of tension? Then this is the book for you! Like there was so much tension and pining in this book that I felt it in my bones! These two were made for each other. Enemies to lovers done so flippin’ well! The holiday setting in Hawaii, makes this a perfect summer read and just watching them fall in love but not being able to do anything about it! He’s her ex’s older brother, but she’s on holiday with his family because her ex invited her! That gives you a little insight into the kinda tension I’m talking about!!! There’s no cheating, but you can tell from the off that these two are destined for each other. The little gestures Josh does for Drew had me swooning, this man is the perfect book boyfriend. He will do anything for her and I love that so much. One of my favourite couples! The only thing that makes this not a 5⭐️ is the fact I thought the drama surrounding her record label was very rushed and there was a lot of build up for it to just be a bit anti climactic. But over all I adored this book and the characters!

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth O’Roark was my very first book from this author and I can say I’m obsessed. I loved this forbidden enemies to lovers slow burn with phenomenal writing.
The writing was so seamless, smooth, the banter was witty - Just a very fresh read.
The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea follows the story of Drew and Josh.
Drew – Narrated by the fantastic Samantha Brentmoor is a pretty famous pop star who has found herself looking pretty awful in the tabloids recently. She decides she needs a break, and heads to Hawaii for a extended stay with her boyfriends (loose terms here) family.
Josh – Narrated by Lee Samuels who did a stellar job as the caring, protective and kindhearted doctor. Who has been spending most of his time in providing aid to a third world country.
I loved watching these two become friends, getting to know how each other clicks, and how perfect these two fits together. This book had so many of my favorite tropes wrapped into one great story!
I cannot wait to read more from Elizabeth!

Another five star read for me for 2024! I loved Drew and Josh from the first moment they interacted. Usually contemporary enemies-to-lovers kinda annoys me because the banter sometimes seems like it tries too hard, but in this case it worked brilliantly. They have the exact same sense of humor, which means the “I hate you” chatter is constantly being escalated to some weird and gross places, and the way they build off each other’s jokes and one-up each other is just such a delight to read.

Watching that dynamic go from “I hate you so much and I’m going to let you know it every chance I get” to “even when we’re mean to each other, I never want this conversation to end” to “I will literally throw away everything else in my life for you” was *fucking thrilling*. They were so unbelievably hot together, and once the spice started happening, my only criticism was that it wasn’t as explicit as I wanted it to be.

I was rooting for them so so hard - not just for them to get together but for Josh to learn how to balance his needs with the needs of the people he loves, and for Drew to learn how to open up and rely on someone else for once. Her story in particular was so heartbreaking and poignant, and the author did such a beautiful job digging deep into Drew’s feelings, fears, cynicisms, hopes, and dreams. It really felt like I was in her head and not in an annoying way.

Anyway, five stars for this book, absolutely loved it, can’t wait to read the novella!

I knew this was a fairly quick read, but it was still a little too quick at times, regarding the story’s timeline.
I felt so bad for the fmc (Drew/Ilina)…
Fuck her whole family! (I’m warming up to the mom, but she, along with her stepfather and stepbrother, made her feel like she had no one to lean on/that no one cared for her and it really pissed me off).
Also, her stepbrother and his wife are sooooo mf bitter. Explain to me why a twenty year old was beefing with a nine year old??? QUICKLY!
Fuck Six as well…idgaf how isolated he feels from his father, his mother and brother care enough for him to not be acting like that.
Fuck her accountant, especially FUCK Davis. Like the shit that he would say to her, on top of making her feel like what you were saying was the right thing to say….PMO so mf bad!
Also, fuck her dad…

Josh was so attentive and just so present for Drew. He truly cared about her and he’s so protective of her it made me melt sometimes.
