Thoughts (spoilers):
I feel like this is a really good surface-level beach read. I actually liked this story more than I thought that I would. I thought that their Hawaii trip was so much fun. It felt like you were at the islands running around and going to the beach with them and it was a lot of fun. I thought the dynamics were well thought out with Six and Drew, Josh and Sloan, and then Beth and their Dad. It made me so sad that the Mom had cancer and she was making this her final trip. Six pissed me off for most of the book but I think that that was part of the point. Drew and Josh's relationship did feel like it started before the book did which I assume is in part due to the fact that this book is not the first in the series. I did think that their relationship was so good. She was this famous pop star who hated her life and was going through a hard time and he was a doctor that worked in Somalia. Part of the book took place after the trip and while I do wish more of it was in Hawaii it made sense that you needed to see what happened to them after the fact.

I can see why this book was raved about by all the reader groups I’m in. This has been in my TBR for a while due to the recommendations but I’ve put it off as the plot of the FMC traipsing around a holiday with her ex’s family didn’t really appeal to me. But I can admit when I’m wrong.

I loved the banter between Drew and Josh. The absolute disdain and sexual tension. And then the deep and meaningfuls and understanding of each other.
Drew was such a great character. A famous pop star who detests her life (I know, poor little rich girl) with a complicated family situation. She’s misunderstood by her Mum, peers, her fans and at one time, Josh. She dated his brother and hung out with him because she thought that’s all she deserved.

Josh isn’t really the devil. Unless you wanna call him devilishly handsome. He was so deliciously grumpy and serious. His attraction to Drew was clear, even though he hated feeling that way. Only he could see the real Drew and vice versa. He also had a complicated family, with his dislike for his selfish father and brother. I loved how he went beyond for his Mum, just like Drew. Those scenes were sad because it reminded me of my own Mum and how I would happily backpack through the Sahara if that was the last trip she wanted.

Do not be a dumb dumb like me and skimp out on reading this. It was so good!

If it’s not a ‘fly to the country I’m in to buy me a pastry’ kind of love, I don’t want it.
