This book was a challenging read, as it portrays the profound struggles Claudia faces in her quest to find her missing best friend. The narrative unfolds across different timelines, culminating in an emotionally charged ending that is sure to bring tears. While it is a work of fiction, it powerfully highlights the harsh reality that often, when young Black girls go missing, their plight is overlooked. HANDS DOWN MY NUMBER 1 BOOK OF 2024
This book is everything and more. Tiffany D. Jackson is an author who deserves to be talked about wayyyyy more. This book gripped me from the beginning and held me until the very end. I could not put this book down. The characters are beautifully written and grab you by the heartstrings at every move.
I really do love the discussion surrounding mental health and the awareness to issues surrounding child *b*s*. The book did not sugar coat anything and was truly a raw and truthful experience. It touched on numerous topics but I believe it has an important message on how you never know what someone is really going through and how it it’s important to speak up before it’s too late.
Claudia as a character I see so much of myself and watching her grow to where we end up at the very end really threw me. I will not lie, when it is discovered what happened to her friend Monday I felt sick to my stomach. I had hoped the entire time that they would find her but once you learned what was truly happening, I’ve never experienced a bigger heartbreak with a book.
Though, I believe this novel should be discussed and read more as it does a good job at discussing difficult topics with younger groups (teens/young adults) especially hi lighting the importance of community. Hands down my number 1 read of 2024.
