Dit boek sprak me sowieso aan omdat het 2 van mijn favoriete thema's combineert, maar het is ook daadwerkelijk goed geschreven, interessant, leerzaam en aan het einde zelfs hoopvol. Het is wel duidelijk voor een Amerikaans publiek geschreven, waar socialisme nog veel meer een vies woord is dan hier. De paragraaf over het intrekken van vrouwenkiesrecht vond ik tamelijk schokkend, al zijn er hier natuurlijk ook SGP-sadboys die dat liever gisteren dan vandaag zouden zien gebeuren.
Het enige probleem dat dit boek wat mij betreft niet helemaal oplost is dat van werk an sich, dus daar zou ik graag meer over lezen.

It took me forever to finish this book, six months to be exact.
Ghodsee does a good job at putting forward her theory and backing it up with “facts” (empirical evidence is a better term) as well as incorporating her opinions, however, that only made the book extremely dense for me thus taking away my ability to fully focus on it - it was a 230 page long rant.
This choice was a bit out of comfort zone nonetheless I am glad I dove into it since I’m keen on economics (more than politics itself), specially the overpowering evil that is capitalism.
Reflecting on the theory exposed, the idea is not to go back to these socialist or even totalitarian states of the past but more like analyzing those in the present that being capitalist have managed to apply certain policies, i.e. mandatory paid maternity leave, of socialist structure.
Is sex actually better when women achieve true economic independence? This is where my thoughts are divided.

toto mohla byť jedna esej a asi by to malo rovnaký zmysel.
niekde na goodreads som už čítala názor, že ghodsee je najlepšia tam, kde len prezentuje dáta a štatistiky a neinterpretuje ich a s tým asi súhlasím (a to s jej myšlienkami do istej miery súznim). ocenila by som trochu lepšie vybudovanú argumentáciu. občas sa stane, že niekde príde na konci odstavca myšlienka, ktorá by potrebovala ďalšie dôkazy/argumenty, ale nestane sa tak.
zaujímavé boli úvahy o sexe ako zdroji sociálnej výmeny (roya baumeistera som mala spojeného s inými konceptami tbh), resp. kritika teórií sociálnej výmeny. tu som konečne našla spôsob rozmýšľania, ktorý mi trochu chýba v psychológií.
budem sa možno opakovať, ale na pochopenie hlavných myšlienok to možno ani netreba čítať celé.
