If you are looking for a bully romance with a little bit of “dark” tendencies then this book is for you but don’t go into the book expecting it to be a dark romance. There was a few things that kept my attention and kept me reading more but there was also a lot that kept me from loving this book. This was my first time reading Sam amd I would definitely like to give her writing another chance.

Banter was great. Was entertaining and way out of pocket sometimes

First pages of this book had me in anger. So we placed it at a 3 star. SA in any form is disgusting. I was ready to give the FMC a knife to stab those 3 with it. I actually wished the FMC had super powers like turning fingers into Liquid Metal and having metal spikes for fingers to kill those 3 boys. I don’t care if it’s fiction. I had to skim that part. That’s how angry I was. For a second I thought MMC would be like don’t do this Jake in the SA scene, zero. He was worse than Jake. He threatened to rape her!!! Blood and all. I hate Carter.
I truly believed she wouldn’t cave. I really believed she would kill the guy. She falls for him? After SA? Eh. I found myself talking to the book to assist the FMC leave.
Shitty
Down to 1 star. This book was cringeworthy. DNF. Read at your own peril.

DNF 50%.

“Anything that isn’t safe can be scary,” he states. “I’ll never be the safe bet, Zoey.”

I've had my share of bully romances, this one, in my opinion, is being a lightweight.

I absolutely adore the way it started. That sceene was amazing!

Honestly? This was one of the better bully romances I’ve read so far, and I didn't expect that. There is non-con and the hero is pretty awful in the beginning.

I’m not going to pretend the behavior in this book isn’t problematic, and I’m not going to make excuses for a hero that is a rapist. The classroom scene early in the book was pretty brutal. That said, what I appreciated most about this book was that the author didn’t make excuses for him. Neither the hero nor the heroine tried to justify his behavior with some BS reasoning (insert standard tragic childhood backstory here).

For once, the heroine seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. SO. MANY. TIMES in dark or bully romances, the h seems to suffer from a deficit of critical thinking skills, self-preservation, and basic intelligence. I think we’ve all encountered our share of TSTL heroines.

I like that Zoey was realistic about what she was doing, and who Carter was as a person. I like that even when she decided to give him a chance, she KNEW it was a big chance she was taking. I like that she didn’t just fall into his bed and swoon when he whipped out his dick or showed her some positive attention. Even when she started to like him, she didn’t turn a blind eye to what he had done to her, and she did call him out on it (and other toxic behavior) more than once in the book.

I hated Carter in the beginning, but by the end I was rooting for the couple despite everything, and dare I say I even liked Carter at that point. He may not have apologized, groveled, or even really changed his ways, but he did make the effort to atone for them through his actions with regard to Zoey. And, well, actions speak louder than words.

Overall, a good book but definitely not for everyone!

Nonconsensual rape and harrassment. Like what would be the redemption for this. Now I understand why dark romance readers like myself are judged. Because of shit like this in the media.Bully romance, my foot. This is just a rape fantasy. The fmc deserves lawyers not a love story
