I really sped through this book! I thought it was engaging and a quick read. I think it definitely read like a debut novel in parts, but overall was happy I went on the ride.

I really enjoyed the Kitty chapters, which were most of the book. I flew through the story of her life, although I wish it had had a more concrete ending. But the Elise chapters were frustrating. It almost felt like they were written by a different author. The characters were not fleshed out to me. All of the people in her life were just selfish celebrities. The love interest calls her names most of the time and she’s still into him. Luckily that was a much smaller portion of the book compared to Kitty’s story. I found it informative and eye-opening.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The Kitty Karr story is very interesting. The rest of the book is not and the end is rushed.

It’s like loosely similar vibes to seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is what I wanted, but I just felt like the pacing was a little all over the place.
I was really anticipating this, but it reads like an audio description of a bad tv series about the most boring people on the planet.
⭐️ DNF @ 26%. This book almost felt like it was written by two different authors. The narrative style between Elise’s parts and Mary’s story was so different, and the switching back and forth was jarring and kept pulling me out of the story. There were also entirely too many irrelevant characters given more screen time than their usefulness to the plot merited, and some of the explanations were unnecessary (who in 2024 doesn’t know who Colin Kapernick is?!)
