For a debut romantasy novel, colour me impressed!

This book had me hooked early on with the political intrigue and dancer-turned-spy elements. You're unsure who the love interest is for a good portion of the book because it's plot > romance but we have optionssss and an actual slow burn. I am so happy she picked the one I wanted her to and the plot twists were surprising to me!

You will DESPISE some characters. Like actually feel the rage towards them. You will love others and root for them to come out on top. I felt deeply invested and connected to the characters which is key for me enjoying a book. The setting is described soo beautifully and the feminine rage is burning hot.

You can tell the author poured so much of herself into Vasalie due to her own personal health struggles. It was refreshing to see a FMC that had to overcome obstacles while dealing with a body she feels is failing her. She's badass for a number of reasons.

I can't wait for the next book in this duology!! I had so much fun reading this for a travelling annotated book club.

Short review, mostly about my feelings not about the plot or characters: Pleasantly surprised. The MMC (
Anton
) and the FMC (Vas) had great banter, the MMC in particular drew a lot of parallels to Peter (Nicholas Hoult) in The Great.

I laughed out loud a couple of times and found myself smiling and becoming giddy over certain events and character interactions.

The plot was mostly politically motivated, with so much happening in the last 50 to 100 pages. SO MUCH!
