i already had some background on this, but damn browder is a compelling writer. obviously, the first half is weaker than the second half, but it’s necessary in order to have the dichotomy it has

The substance of the book is incredibly compelling, relevant, and disturbing. I'm very grateful the author did what he did and shared his (and importantly, Magnitsky's) story. Not the author's fault he's a finance guy and not a writer; the frequent details about his wealthy lifestyle and righteous campaigning did feel pretty tone-deaf after a certain point, though.

This is by far my most favorite read this year. I already have a soft spot on Russian vibes.  Bill Browner is an excellent story teller of his life. It's was very  informative about his career trajectory. And feel the excited gold mine he found in Russia. And how inspiring to himself directly challenging Russia. Which he could have died. Never once a book hook me up I read 100 pages just in one sitting.  Everything is such a thriller roller coaster!

The first half of the book felt really drawn out. I'm in finance so a lot of the investment stuff in that part was really hard to get through. It was not engaging for me. The second half of the book was good, and it saved the book for me.
