While the last few chapters picked up pace ,I still couldn't rate this more than 2.25 stars . The ending was rushed and the" big twist"  was anticlimactic . Too many point of views and it dragged for me . Also I feel like the detail of the science instead of the actual mermaids being seen bored me . I just didn't care for any of the characters that much due to that fact . I just wanted to like this more than I actually did. One thing I did like was the the "mermaids" and how they are described and how they act .

HOLY SHT. This is one of the wildest rides I've ever been on.

This part horror, part science fiction is a masterpiece. It takes you on a damned journey to find the truth about about a ship and the creatures that attacked it. But it also takes you on a journey to know more about people, about humans, our environment, and both the known and unknown history and mysteries of our world.

This was just so so good. Atmospheric, poetic, dark, gritty. Also I loved the diversity in the cast.

Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire is a blessing in literature 🤧

Holy moly this book is sooo good! Who knew I needed a book about killer mermaids? Also I am never going in the ocean again. I will say I was not expecting as much science as this book offered but I found it very interesting. It took a bit to get used to the pacing of this book because it moves at a slower pace especially initially then you would think a scifi horror would. There were also scenes where it would be moving very quicklly and then slow down so the pacing took a bit to get used to but it mae a lot of sense. This book is literal perfection , it even made me care about the characters which I tend not to when I know there is a possibility that they can die. Overall this book was very well done, very enterttaining and is one that will stick with me for a long time

You knew every single time that a character was going to die, because you'd get a whole chapter from their POV that would give you their whole life story that would let you know how sad/great it would be if they died. Characters didn't feel like they were getting time to be fleshed out, but rather rushed lore dumping right before their deaths to make it feel like they had meaning. Also, the fact we didn't get to see the queen at the end basically at all was such a disappointment.

Fun ride, questionable ending, and I've got issues with the character development.
This honestly felt like a film adaptation where the author tried to show every inner thought from a movie character when that couldn't be seen on film. I think this would make an AWESOME movie!

I love all the representation in the book. The last 150-ish pages had me so enthralled I couldn’t put it down. My only critique is that is was really slow to get through at times and took a long time to pick up, I don’t think it needed to be as long as it was.
