A great version of the Frank Wedekind play, plus all the lyrics to the songs in the musical. A view moments are changed from the original but mostly for the better. The lyrics are written as the songs take place in the show so you're not taken out of the moment to go find the song lyrics.

I bought this when I was in the US in 2009 after seeing the musical at The Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. and it's languished on my shelves ever since. This is the musical script adaptation of the Spring Awakening play. My feelings about this are pretty similar to how I felt about the play, and I definitely enjoyed watching the musical a lot more than reading the play/script. Watching the musical was definitely a much more emotive experience.
I think the songs are so peppy, I almost forgot how bleak the subject material is. One thing that really pissed me off about the musical, after reading the play, is how No. Just no. All in all, another meh book for me. Trigger warnings for physical abuse, suicide, and abortion (I'm sorry if I've forgotten anything).

despite the fact that i've never seen it (if you don't count the clips you can find on youtube) Spring Awakening is my favorite musical (among Rent) and even tho it really is a musical you should see and not read i really enjoyed reading it too. hopefully i get to see it played on stage one day.
I've listened to Duncan Sheik's score many a time and it is great to finally get a story to go with the music!

I recently checked this book out of the library after re-discovering my love for the score. Oh my lord, the play is AMAZING, especially once you understand the parallels the author makes to the work it is based on ([b:Spring's Awakening|10864835|Spring's Awakening|Frank Wedekind|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328323568s/10864835.jpg|1221933]). I LOVED it, and I cannot wait to read it again.
A vast improvement on the original play. The books and lyrics are incredibly poetic for a stage musical. It improves on the original play in every way, making this story for more relatable, emotional, and important.
