Great read! Loved the dynamics and relationship of Gamora and Nebula. Thanos is such a dead beat. Great artwork, I will be continuing this one.

Lesson #1 of both books and comics: Never judge a book by its cover. I was intrigued by the idea of a Gamora comic book series, but I did not think much of the cover. I told myself, "If I don't like the first issue, I won't keep reading." Of course, I am an idiot, and more women need to do the cover art of this series because sexualizing Gamora is not the right way to appeal to readers.

Nicole Perlman is a fantastic writer. She gives depth and attention to Gamora, whose potential was only hinted at in the recent Guardians film. Gamora is an assassin for her adopted father Thanos, but there is more to her than that. She is grieving and angry and looking for something to fill the hole in her psyche. She wants peace, and she can't find it. This first issue reminded me of what I loved about the Nathan Edmondson/Phil Noto run of Black Widow: how they balanced the strength of Natasha with her vulnerabilities and how space was built in for her doubts and self-reflections. I can only imagine that this is a passion project for Perlman, also the screenwriter of the first Guardians film and recently announced to be the screenwriter on the Captain Marvel movie. I can't wait to see what she does next.

The art in this book is similarly fantastic. I love how Gamora and Nebula are drawn. I love how the issue has movement on every panel. I love the muted coloring of the issue. It's all fantastic, and I can't wait to read the next two issues.
