One of my favorite series as a kid! For a year I was even signed up with scholastic where I received the whole series in paperback and got to do little fun crafts and things. :) I've watched COUNTLESS episodes with my mother and had fun comparing the books to the show. This series will always hold a special place in my heart.
Nearly 40 years after starting it, I completed this series, reading it to my own children after stalling at the fifth book as a child. Perhaps The Long Winter was too gruelling for ten year old, or the changing concerns of a maturing Laura weren't as interesting to a young boy who'd just seen Star Wars for the first time. Wonderful to read again and appreciate in a whole new way.
5 stars for almost making me cry.
"For at last she realized that she was going away from home, that never would she come back to this home to stay. They all lingered at the table, for they knew that after dinner came the parting, but finally Almanzo said it was time to go. Laura put on her bonnet and went out to the buggy as Almanzo drove to the door. There were goodbye kisses and good wishes, while he stood ready to help her into the buggy.
But Pa took her hand.
"You'll help her from now on, young man, " he said to Almanzo. " But this time, I will. "
LITTLE LAURA IS ALL GROWN UP.
I loved this book. From the terrifying time at the Brewsters, to the charming moment Almanzo came to" save" Laura from weekends at the Brewsters, to Lauras academic achievements, to the horses, to the courtship (even if Laura didn't seem as into it...).
What really got me though was Pa playing all the songs he played through the previous books to Laura before she gets married and moves out. It felt like a great closing to a great series.

Laura’s life has just brought her a few big changes as she becomes a schoolteacher far away from home, her relationship with Almanzo blooms into love and they end up getting married and prepare leaving for Minnesota to start their new lives. A (100%/Outstanding)

I don't think I'll ever give these books less than a 5 star rating, to be honest. They're just so entertaining and educational at the same time and you end up feeling for the Ingalls so much in every story and wanting them to just be happy and safe and healthy. This story was no exception. We did get to know Almanzo a bit better and I like where it ended. I'm looking forward to the last book. I would recommend this book and series. 5 out of 5 stars.
