Picks up where Little Town ended and follows Laura’s teaching days as well as her courtship with Almanzo.
A beautiful story and nice to see some happy days for the Ingalls family after so much struggle and hardship in the other novels.

These Happy Golden Years follows Laura through her later teen years. I really enjoyed reading about this phase of Laura’s life. Her courtship with Almanzo Wilder is particularly heartwarming. Although this novel definitely has the charm of the Little House series, some chapters were definitively slow (Mrs. Brewster in particular). Overall, this was a very sweet read. I couldn’t help but be moved by the final scenes of Laura leaving her beloved childhood home for married life.
I love that after so many years of hardship the family is finally making it - and it's lasting - thanks to Laura's hard work and selflessness. But why did she spend so much time describing the clothes she was wearing?
...and I am stopping here! I don't want my rose-colored view of prairie life to be tainted by the horrors of The First Four Years. Yes, I have read the warnings of other Goodreads users, and I have heeded them.
I loved rereading this series as an adult, but I am just not buying into the wonders of prairie living.
