Jack and Jill were not my favorite characters in Every Heart a Doorway, but I prefer this installment of the series over the first one. I think largely has to do with the fact that there was less to cover in terms of world building this time/few characters to keep track of.

I enjoyed the tragedy that this was from the start, and how I was left hoping for a better outcome as I got attached to certain characters. A lot of people failed Jack and Jill along the way and they didn't have much control. That being said Jack still chose Jill at a detriment to herself. This only solidify my dislike for Jill as a person, though the book does a good job at explain that she, too, is a victim of her circumstances. The choices she was able to make were terrible, and she never thought of herself as being at fault.

I also disliked that
Alexis was killed: a total bury your gays moment.

Both a great standalone and follow-up to Every Heart a Doorway! I loved learning more about Jack and Jill, and the magical world they came from. I enjoyed this darker take and the sibling-focused storyline.

Not as innovative as the first Wayward Children, but a completely captivating story that's just a weird and dark portal fantasy. I really liked getting to see more of the Moors, and I loved Jack even more by the end (there's a lot of understanding about Jill as a character, too, but Jack is just so good).

"Every choice feeds every choice that comes after, whether we want those choices or no."

What a dark, atmospheric, gothically gruesome little story this was.. and I absolutely devoured it! It has been years since I read the first installment to this series, but that did not take away any of my enjoyment.

The intricate world that McGuire created here is incredible. I love visiting the portal world that opens up for these special kids. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the twins chosen reality and learning more of their backstory, especially after the events of book 1.

I may reread Every Heart a Doorway before continuing on with this wacky series. Nonetheless, I look forward to discovering more doorways and exploring more within this universe.

Jack and Jill 😍😍😍 I wasn't *quite* as head over heels for this one as I was for the first one, but it was still a very strong installment. This series is just so fun, and diverse, and dark, and I am living.
