The premise of Down Among the Sticks and Bones was incredibly cool but I'm starting to think McGuire's writing style just isn't for me. Every time I'd get into the story, the self-aware narrator would make a remark that would pull me back out.

I loved the dynamic between our main characters Jack and Jill, and how their sibling rivalry added a modern twist to darker folklore. This was way darker than I had anticipated... gimme more!!!

Down Among the Sticks and Bones was so good! It was creepy and spooky in all the right ways. Jack and Jill were so intriguing when we first met them in Every Heart a Doorway. And I loved getting to see their story and what was behind their door. It gave me the old school horror vibes that I didn’t know I needed. I also loved that this was sapphic! I wish that Jack and Alexis could have had a happy ending, but alas, it wouldn’t have been the same story. This is getting a four out of five stars.

I didn't know that I wanted to hear more about Jack and Jill's story until I read this book. I truly had a wonderful time with the story and flew through the last 100 pages. The writing style was beautiful. I usually have a very tough time imagining things, but I was about to create some sort of image in my head as I read. If you have a more active imagination, you will have no trouble visualizing the scenes. The book is more description driven than dialogue driven, but I was completely fine with that.

<semi-spoilers> The last 30 pages made me cry and I wasn't expecting it. I am definitely a Jack stan and now thinking about how everyone treated her in the first book makes me irrational angry </semi'spoilers>
