Really enjoyed this peek into Jack and Jill’s time in the Moors. It’s as dark -but also more beautiful- than I’d imagined. Similar vibe to the first book: hopeful yet tragic and incredibly readable. I’ll definitely continue with the series.

As an identical twin, there are several passages, especially in the first quarter, that made me nearly cry with a sense of recognition.

It's hard to begin to describe this book. It was absolutely stunning but hard to explain. The writing is extraordinary and causes you to be completely encased in the story. We follow Jack and Jill in this installment and we get to see their backstory and what happened when they went through their door before they ended up at the home for wayward children. It was enchanting, heartbreaking, and utterly fascinating. I couldn't put it down. This series is a must read for fantasy lovers!

Jack and Jill were not my favorite characters in Every Heart a Doorway, but I prefer this installment of the series over the first one. I think largely has to do with the fact that there was less to cover in terms of world building this time/few characters to keep track of.

I enjoyed the tragedy that this was from the start, and how I was left hoping for a better outcome as I got attached to certain characters. A lot of people failed Jack and Jill along the way and they didn't have much control. That being said Jack still chose Jill at a detriment to herself. This only solidify my dislike for Jill as a person, though the book does a good job at explain that she, too, is a victim of her circumstances. The choices she was able to make were terrible, and she never thought of herself as being at fault.

I also disliked that
Alexis was killed: a total bury your gays moment.
