Surprisingly good, a bit dark

I'll just come out and say it. The ending was pretty darn dark. Overall I feel like this novel had the right level of drama, but I have to state this: the series seems to be amping up in a way where corporate intrigue and political scheming will start to take the forefront of the drama. For me, that's a deal breaker. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I also know the next book is likely already written due to this being a royal road series. Honestly I don't have high hopes going into the next book.

Alot of people enjoy that kind of drama, but to me it's just frustrating and feels forced and weak. This book had a fair amount, but nothing too bad. But the foreshadowing was very heavy with the fact it will likely become more prominent.

Like the first book, this one again feels fairly realistic given the theme, and everything feels like it would naturally occur. The world building is fantastic, and the characters are enjoyable and different. The authors have a true talent for those two aspects. I will say that a more professional editor is needed at this point, as a lot of sections required multiple rereads to confirm I was understanding the situation. A good example is dealing with the starfish affiliate. It repeats phrases, but it isn't clear that it's glitching out. It takes some imagination to picture that. There are also a couple points in the story that were written twice. And several areas had very strange paragraphs, clearly a thorough look needs to happen.
My guess, the author just copy/pasted the royal road version over to Kindle without any serious edits. A common flaw with RR authors.

Anyways! Great book, really hope the sequel is similar and not to political.
