Interesting concept but overall frustratingly done. I was yanked out of the story by minor contractions which should have been caught in editing and HATED the lack of quotation marks to denote speech. Honestly, that dropped the entire rating down by a full star.
The ending, with a lack of serious introspection into the idea of something being a good thing if done by the protagonist but bad if done by anyone else, was surprising to me and left it feeling rushed.

I am going to keep this short. I wanted to love this. The cover drew me in, the premise kept me there and I raised it high on my TBR but after 100 pages it felt a slog. It took me over a month to complete and that is very much not like me. I had to put this down because of boredom multiple times and in fact purchased the audiobook to help get me over the hump.
The writing style has gotten a lot of critiques and I would say, it was not great. This style of prose, with no quotation is fine. Authors like Paul Lynch, Cormac McCarthy or Jose Saramago are all examples of this being used with emphatic reasoning. This did not feel the same and in fact could have been more enjoyable otherwise in my opinion. Now, the style was a drawback but I would say the pacing is what let me loose. I was bored. Downright bored. The characters were dull, the premise was spectacular but executed without much giddy-up. I feel like maybe I missed something along the way as I have seen positive reviews but this just did not land for me.
