I liked the premise of the book, but overall thought the book was just ok. I really struggle with the entire story about her miserable life being a result of dropping out of school because a boy she liked in grade school for like 6 months died. It’s just such an extreme reaction that I had a hard time caring about Odile. Or maybe that was the point? I wasn’t wowed or overly enamoured with this book. The writing was pretty good and descriptive but it was a bit of a slower read for me.

Really interesting concept, big fan of dystopia, with a story that grips you and moves at pace. I kinda enjoyed it but felt it lacked a sense of empathy and emotion at times, particularly when touching on difficult topics like suicide, abuse and sexual violence. I felt like the author used this topics very lightly, and I wasnt entirely clear on the purpose of inclusion to the wider story, particularly abuse and sexual violence. if it was to provide wider context to the world they lived in perhaps perhaps the empathy was needed. Or maybe it was meant as a character flaws but then empathy was shown towards the end of the book? Additionally, where the book was a film it would not pass the bechdal test, and whilst the main character was a young woman, the majority of characters and the main driver of the story were men.
